High Point Central Auditorium Renovations

High Point, NC

Constructed in 1927, High Point Central High School has held a pride of place for the City of High Point. Over the years, water leakage in the Auditorium had caused deterioration of the plaster walls and slate roof. ESPA’s approach to the renovations was to restore/replace the existing plaster ceiling and decorative molding, reroof the leaking slate shingle roof, and upgrade the house lighting all while exploring options to complete the work within a tight budget. The contractor constructed an elevated platform which allowed the removal and replacement of the ceiling to be conducted without damage to the existing seating and balcony areas. The existing slate shingles were reused along with supplemented salvage shingles from area buildings to address the reroofing of the sloped roof. Interior decorative moldings were recreated from surviving moldings and house lighting was upgraded to LED fixtures.
